With his raw talent, Kohl Canaday has a bright future ahead of him
I’ve been shooting motocross for about 10 years now, and every once in a while a young rider in the 65 or 80c.c. class will catch your eye with their natural riding ability and style. A couple of years back there was one young fellow who stood out on race weekend—his name is Kohl Canaday. Kohl has continued up through the natural progression of race classes and bikes but during the 2007 season, his development was incredible. With quality guidance at an early age from his step father Greg Henderson, and with the support of his family, Kohl has become an excellent all around rider.

Kohl started the 2007 season racing arenacross on his 85c.c., moved up to intermediate on a 125c.c. bike for the outdoor season, then finished the year in great style at the Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC) BC Championship Series. During this race weekend Kohl blew up his 125c.c. bike; Jason Hughes from Leading Edge Motorsports saw that Kohl needed a ride, and with some discussion Kohl has a bike, a bigger bike. He climbed aboard a Kawasaki 250F and won the overall Intermediate title with a victory over Canadian National Amateur Champion Shane Wiebe.
For the 2008 racing season Kohl Canaday is now part of the Leading Edge Race Team. Jason Hughes has brought him on board to help further his development and describes Kohl as “a great kid, with tremendous raw talent,” and sees a bright future, for this humble young man.
Kohl spent this past winter training in northern California getting used to his new 2008 Kawasaki 250F. The race tracks in the north are close to each other, and offer varied terrain with tons of saddle time, enabling Canadian racers to ready themselves for the outdoor race season.
I had the opportunity to see Kohl in his first series of races since getting back from California, and man is this kid fast. He will be getting in as many races as possible and will be travelling to Nanaimo, B.C., and Edmonton, Alberta, for the CMRC national rounds in July.
Kohl would like to thank Jason Hughes and Leading Edge Motorsports, as well as Rod Runzer and Brock Hoyer, for all their support. He would especially like to thank his parents, Greg and Michelle, for all they’ve done to support his dream of becoming a professional motocross racer.
