Bringing the pros to town
A full slate of professional motocrossers competed at the CMRC nationals
What a way to end the Canadian Motosport Racing Club (CMRC) Pro National series on July 12—after more than 10 years of coming to the Wastelands track in Nanaimo.

The track was in fantastic shape this weekend. Local Campbell River rider Dusty Klatt was on hand to try and regain the number plate that he had held two years ago. Klatt was on fire this weekend and he put on a great show for all of his fans. He also signed posters for all who wanted them.
In his first moto, Klatt took the hole-shot and went unchallenged as his bike was dialled in to perfection. Once out in front, he flew over the tabletops and tore up the burms when he rounded them.
The next moto, however, was a tough one for Klatt. He had the lead but soon lost it as his rear tire slid out on him. Klatt remounted and made a huge comeback. He finished the moto with seventh place overall and finished the day in fourth overall.
Colton Facciotti of Abbotsford was the overall winner for the day, followed by American rider Jeff Northrop and Alberta rider Blair Morgan.
The following day, Colton McLean of Courtenay had a great ride in the MX2 Pro class. He qualified 26th out of 40—not a bad spot to be as this was his first year riding as a pro. McLean had a little bad luck in his first moto as he got a flat tire just a few laps into the race. He got it repaired and made it back out on the track.
McLean’s next moto went much better. He got a good start and finished about mid-pack. With the good second moto finish, McLean ended up in twentieth place overall for the day—not a bad day of racing for the first time racing with more experienced riders.
Another Courtenay rider who had a good day of motocross racing was Milo Christie who rode in the MX1 Pro class. Christie finished the day in eighteenth place overall out of 40 riders.
The next local is set for August 31 at the Campbell River track on Highway 28—the Gold River highway across from the McIver Lake turnoff.
