Train hard and ride faster

Hard work and dedication has paid off for Kyle McGlynn

Kyle McGlynn started riding his dirt bike when he was six years old in his home town of Wembley, Alberta, and starting racing when he was nine years old in the Peace Motocross Association (PMA) series. From that early age, McGlynn knew motocross was something he was passionate and serious about. Hard work and training has led him to where he is today.

The 19-year-old has been racing professionally for the last two motocross seasons on his 2009 KTM 250 SX-F in the MX2 class in the CRMC Canadian Pro Nationals and has a contract to race for KTM Canada. While McGlynn loves what he does, he stressed that his chosen profession requires a lot of his time and dedication to the sport.

“I have had the experience of having a real job and I do have to work a little bit in the winter,” said McGlynn. “It is not all riding dirt bikes and hanging out in nice places—I do work. I have a lot of respect for people that have real jobs, though. But if I can somehow make a good living riding dirt bikes, I am going to do whatever it takes. The last two seasons I spent two months in California riding and training and I never went to the beach once. I was constantly in the gym, riding my dirt bike and sleeping—I pour everything that I have into it—including my money and my family’s money.”

At McGlynn’s level of motocross, he dedicates 60 to 70 hours a week to training. With the jam-packed race schedule ahead of him, he knows the harder he works the better he will be. In June, 2009, McGlynn will be starting the CMRC Canadian Pro Nationals series in Kamloops, B.C., and working his way across Canada.

“East from Kamloops, the next two rounds will be in Edmonton and Calgary and then it goes to Manitoba and out east to Quebec and Ontario. There is one round in Moncton, New Brunswick, too,” he said.

McGylnn’s next motocross race, however, is in Grande Prairie for the PMA series where his career began.

“This year the Canadian Pro Nationals don’t start until June,” said McGlynn, “so it is pretty cool because I get the chance to do some local stuff and it’s nice to race the series that I grew up racing on.”
