Campbell River racing
Round four of the CMRC Vancouver Island Spring Series was a great event
It was a great weekend for motocross racing in Campbell River as they hosted round four of the CMRC Vancouver Island Spring Series. It started out with a riding school for those who chose to enroll in it. The school was put on by Courtenay Pro rider Colton McLean. Once school was over the riders were able to put their new learning to the test as the Campbell River Motocross Club held an open practice. Many of the riders who took part in the school stuck around to take part in the practice. It was a wise choice for those who did as the club had changed the direction of the track as well as made lots of track changes. Club president Ed Allen spent many a day working on the track—a great job he did too. Not only was he running the equipment, he was also out there throwing rocks and putting up fencing to make it as safe as possible for all riders. The club spent lots of hours cleaning the area to make it as presentable as possible to all who came. There were riders from as far away as Manitoba who were in town for the weekend and were interested in riding the track, not only for practice day but race day as well. There were riders who came over from the Lower Mainland for race day as well as riders from up and down the Island.
One of the riders who took part was Campbell River rider Jesse White. White rides in the MX2 Beginner class. He must have been paying very close attention to what was being taught by McLean. White also took part in the practice after school to help perfect his new education in the sport of motocross. The school paid off for White, as did the practice day riding, as he kept first overall right here in Campbell River. Second overall went to North Island rider Garret Gildersleeve of Port Hardy. Third overall went home with Kayla Peefers to Port Alberni.
In the GP Pro Am it was a great day for Campbell River rider Andrew Belin. Belin rode to top place overall while Courtenay rider Eric Wikman took second place overall. Saltspring Island rider Howie Spencer took home third place. Tough break for Powell River rider Bryce Adams—Adams went down and sustained a broken wrist and will be out at least three months. Best of luck to you, Bryce.
One rider to keep a close eye on in the coming years is Jacob Piccolo of Abbotsford. This little guy can fly. He was riding in the 50cc 4-6 class and he put a show on for the crowd that was on hand. Piccolo went home with first overall while second place went to Saltspring Island with Cameron Bradley.
One other rider from the Lower Mainland that did well here this past weekend was Jacob Waddel. He was riding the older 7-8 class of the 50cc. He was getting some big air on the top section of the track. He also returned home with first place overall. Second went home to Duncan with Wyatt Youland while third went to Saltspring Island rider Brandon Johnson.
Crofton rider Cory Cardinal had a great day of racing this past weekend as well. He was ripping up the track and flying high in two of the classes he was entered in. In both classes he took home first overall. The first class in which he placed first was the 85cc 13-16 class. He was followed over the finish line by Wesley Pickering of Saltspring Island who finished the day in second overall. Third for the day went home to Sooke with James Cool.
The other class in which Cardinal did well—he was once again flying high and railing the burms—was the SuperMini class. He took top place home in it as well. Once again Pickering had to settle for second place behind Cardinal. Third place overall went to Crofton with Eli Titus.
Port Alberni rider Amy Aspell was the rider to catch in the Ladies class if you wanted to take home first place. That would prove to be a hard thing to do as she was right at the top of her game plan this weekend despite being a little sore after her fall in Port Hardy a few weeks ago. That did not stop her from riding hard this past weekend. She rode well enough to take top spot home. Second place overall also went to Port Alberni. The rider to take that home was Kayla Peffers. Peffers may have got home with second but it was no easy task as Taylor Lesser of Powell River was giving it all she had to try and take it home with her. She had to settle for third this weekend.
In the Youth class McLean was twisting the throttle hard to get all he could from his bike as he was riding a 250 two stroke against the big 450 four-stroke so he had to be right on top of his game plan throughout the race. He had to contend with the likes of Wikman and Farshed Maleky of Burnaby who was over for the weekend. McLean was able to hold them off for first overall while Maleky took second place and Wikman third.
There was some great bar-to-bar, wheel-to-wheel racing in the Plus 40 class as Ron Hyde of Victoria and Kari Melty of Courtenay were going at it, Melty on a two-stroke and Hyde on a four-stroke. When the day was over it was Hyde who took first overall while Melty went home in second place. Third overall went to Nanaimo rider Tracy Morlok.
There was a real race to the checkered flag in the Intermediate class between Nanoose Bay rider Nick Syrotuck and Saanichton rider Ross Sherman. It was Syrotuck who took the checkered flag just ahead of Sherman to get first in the afternoon. That would give Syrotuck the overall win for the day. Sherman took second overall for the day while Sean Poire of Victoria took home third overall.
Courtenay rider Brayden Olson had a huge lead in both of his MX1 Intermediate class motos to take home first overall. Tyler Peterson of Qualicum Beach was the rider to take home second overall while Saltspring Island rider Scott Richardson took third.

When you store start with STA-BIL
STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer is specially formulated to keep fuel fresh for quick, easy starts after storage. Normally, stored fuel can go bad in as little as 60 days, causing varnish deposits and corrosion to build up in engines; however, with STA-BIL's blend of scientific additives, fuel will stay fresh for up to two years (using twice the recommended dosage). It also cleans carburetors and fuel injectors, prolongs engine life and eliminates the need to drain fuel before storage. STA-BIL Fuel Stabilizer can be used for all two- and four-stroke gasoline engines, including snowmobiles, ATVs, motorcycles, boats, jet skis and other power equipment.

HOW DOES SNOWMOBILING AFFECT CARIBOU?
As most snowmobiling occurs in high elevation areas, there is the potential for snowmobiling to disturb and displace these animals from their preferred habitat into areas less suitable and more prone to avalanches. Mountain caribou may also become stressed, which can affect energy reserves during critical time periods. In addition, snowmobile trails can provide easier access for predators into areas occupied by mountain caribou. Please take caution and be aware of, and avoid, mountain caribou in your riding area.
