The Ridgeriders ATV Club is one of the smaller clubs in B.C. and the majority of members are cottage owners at Norman and Bobtail Lakes, which are located west of Prince George. The club was formed in 2004 with 23 members to show our support for the ATVing community and to participate in the insurance opportunities. Since then, the club has grown to 28 members.

With the majority of members spending the summers out at their cottages, we can ride our ATVs from our back doors, which eliminates the need to trailer. This allows us to be on the trails any time we want and, should anyone want to visit their neighbours, an ATV is the best way to get around.

The club has one organized ride each month from May to September that is usually 50 to 100 kilometres in length. This includes a meeting to start and a social event after. Numerous impromptu rides happen whenever someone wants to go Someone says, “Let’s go for a ride” and the next thing you know there is a group of people gathered and ready to go. The club holds a poker ride every year around July 1. In 2007, about 125 machines participated in the event. The poker ride for 2008 will be on June 28 starting at Norman Lake.

The scenery in our area is very beautiful and our landscape is ever-changing with open country that allows ATVers to see areas that were previously obscured due to the heavy forests. On any given ride, you can expect to see animals like moose, deer, bear, coyotes, lynx and wolverine as well as birds like cranes, blue herons, ducks, geese, swans, grouse and white pelicans.

The Ridgeriders participated in the Prince George ATV and Motorcycle Show on March 14 and 15, 2008, with the Prince George ATV Club and ATV/BC. The booth was very active with a lot of people who didn’t know there were two ATV clubs in Prince George. As a result, there was a lot of dialogue about what the clubs do and the benefits of joining a club and belonging to ATV/BC.

The Ridgeriders website (www.ridgeridersATVclub.ca) is in the process of being developed and should be up and running in the near future.
