The Revelstoke ATV Club’s GPS Poker Ride promises to be a blast
If you have an ATV and a GPS you will not want to miss this event. You will get some experience using your GPS and can win a prize.
Here is how it works. You buy your hand for $10 which gets you five rolls of five dice. Your first roll is free for taking part in the poker ride. The remaining four rolls have to be earned. To do this you draw four sets of co-ordinates that you will have to find. When you find the first set of co-ordinates you will find a POI marker like the yellow one above. On this marker is a unique Ser#. Mark this number down and better yet take a picture of it with your digital camera just in case you write the number down wrong. You then go on and find the remaining three markers that are left in your hand, recording their Ser#’s as well. When you have found all four of your markers you return back to the staging area and give your Ser#?s to the ride controller. If the four Ser#?s match the Ser#’s of the four co-ordinates you picked you then receive four more rolls of the five dice for your hand. The controller of the ride enters these rolls into the computer and after all riders have returned and have been entered, the highest total of all five rolls will get first prize. Winner(s) will be awarded for second and third prize as well.
This ride is not a race—we want you to enjoy this scenic area and have fun riding your ATV and using your GPS. Things you should bring with you other than your ATV and GPS are a digital camera, maps or map book, i.e. Backroads Map Book Vol. 3, a compass, paper and pencil, lunch, rain gear and extra gas.
This ride will be held Saturday and Sunday, July 11 and 12, 2009, just off the #1 Highway on the Wap Lake Mabel Lake FSR, at the west end of Three Valley Lake (50º 55.672” N by 118º 28.920” W Alt. 540m). The ride will start at 8 a.m. Saturday, July 11. There is lots of parking at the staging area as well as lots of area to dry camp. You can make a weekend out of it and come on Thursday the 9th or Friday the 10th and ride the area a bit before the ride starts.
For more information call 3 Valley Al at 250-837-4582 or e-mail at 3valleyal@gmail.com. Hope to see you out there—this is going to be a great ride and I look forward to meeting you.
Disclaimer: The Revelstoke ATV Club reserves the right to make changes to the ride rules before July 11 and 12, 2009 without notification to participants.

HOW DOES SNOWMOBILING AFFECT CARIBOU?
As most snowmobiling occurs in high elevation areas, there is the potential for snowmobiling to disturb and displace these animals from their preferred habitat into areas less suitable and more prone to avalanches. Mountain caribou may also become stressed, which can affect energy reserves during critical time periods. In addition, snowmobile trails can provide easier access for predators into areas occupied by mountain caribou. Please take caution and be aware of, and avoid, mountain caribou in your riding area.
