Bling Star suicide doors new for 2012
Bling Star offers traditional and vertical suicide doors in polished or textured finish for Can-Am Commander years 2008 to 2012 and for Polaris RZR/S 800 and XP900 2009 to 2012 models.
The doors are made from aircraft grade 6061 aluminum for durability and follow the lines of the stock plastic for a perfect fit. They are six inches wider than others on the market because the stock side plastic quarter panel has been deleted and Bling Star’s own custom aluminum quarter panels added in their place.
Anti-vibration rubber washers are used throughout for reduced noise, while laser cut door skins with a lower sight window offer greater visibility. Vertical suicide doors feature an optional wireless remote operation and button dashboard control.

The Sportsman XP 850 will not be outperformed
Polaris is cranking out extreme performance for 2012 with a new high-output 850 twin EFI engine and upgraded throttle bodies in the Sportsman XP 850 H.O. EPS. Greater power to the ground means 20 per cent quicker acceleration and the SOHC engine delivers a clean fuel burn for smooth power delivery. Pair these up with 12 inches of ground clearance and there won’t be a rock, rut, or log that can keep you down. Variable Assist electronic power steering means better handing on obstacles and at low speeds and the ergonomically engineered vehicle body with 33 per cent wider floorboards and a narrow width at the knees and ankles means toughness on the trail—not on your body. Long dual A-arm front suspension and having the steering axis near the neutral center of the tire radically reduces kickback so you can save your energy for adventure.

Communications convenience
Stay connected with fellow sledders, ATVers or motorbike riders with the Scala Rider G4 PowerSet communications system. This handy gadget allows riders—either riding together or on separate machines—to stay in touch within a range of up to 1.6 kilometres.
Using the intercom setup, riders can communicate directly with each other. Earphones attach with Velcro to the side of the helmet and a corded microphone can be placed wherever it's comfortable. For communication outside of the intercom system, the G4 can be configured to work with a mobile phone via bluetooth, and voice commands can dial, answer or reject calls.
If you're not the talkative type, the device can play music from an MP3 player by either a direct plug-in or through a music device with a bluetooth-enabled A2DP or AVRCP profile.
For the directionally challenged, the G4 can also be configured to work with a GPS unit, which will provide automated voice commands to lead you to your destination.

The iPhone is one of the most popular cellphones on the market right now and a big reason for that is the ability to download software applications, or apps. Garafa LLC has developed an app called the GPS Kit that backcountry enthusiasts may find useful. This app can be downloaded on an iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad and features a GPS system integrated with wireless technology. Create waypoints and add any metadata such as a sweet riding spot or a cabin to mark the location. Distances to waypoints can been seen in real time and the dashboard is fully customizable—users can set useful fields like time, distance travelled and elevation change. Even outside cellphone range, the GPS Kit functions true to its name.

Keep it clean
Stow your gear away in dry bags made by Coghlan’s, a company specializing in outdoor camping accessories. These lightweight nylon bags come in different sizes—55 litres, 25 litres and 10 litres—and the seams are taped and waterproof.
The dry bag can be used to prevent extra clothing or equipment from getting wet or dirty on the back of your ride—whether it be a sled or a quad—though it won’t keep out water if completely submerged.

Secure in the shade

Let it all hang
Garages and trailers can be a cluttered mess but a hanging system called the SuperHangAll—a wall-mounted track with adjustable hooks that slide along to hang gear and other apparel—can save the day. Honda debuts new model
Conquer the backcountry with a completely new ATV model from Honda—the FourTrax Rincon TRX680F. This unit contains a four-stroke 675-cc engine strategically placed at a reduced height for a low centre of gravity that increases stability and handling. Adjusting back and forth from 2WD to 4WD is easy with the flick of a handlebar switch, and a four-wheel independent suspension system with 9.2 inches of ground clearance ensures that this ATV can handle the roughest kind of terrain. Using aluminum material in parts such as rear upper and lower control arms, the rear knuckles and the front and back wheels saves weight on the TRX 680F. Instrumentation includes a tough LCD that displays information on the speedometer, odometer, gear selection and other standard features. Other handy conveniences include a 4-litre storage compartment and an accessory socket that provides 12-volt, 10-amp power.

Neither rough terrain or even water will stop the amphibious ARGO models from reaching your backcountry destination. Optimal performance

Wearing your own airbag
Motorcycle accidents are often deadly because there is usually no protection for riders except for a helmet. Armored Air Jackets, a company based in the U.S., is doing its part to improve rider safety by creating a jacket lined with strips that will inflate if a rider is thrown off their machine. A ripcord is tethered from the jacket to the motorcycle and when the rider is thrown, the force pulls the cord and releases air stored inside a CO2 cartridge that fills the airbags inside the jacket. The airbags are strategically placed to loop through the collar around the back of the neck, down the left and right sides of the chest and back. The airbags inflate in less than half-a-second and provide protection to sensitive areas like the spine and neck. There are two different products made by the company: the Armored Air Vest and the Armored Air Leather jacket. Both come in black, are waterproof and machine washable.

New models for off-road enthusiasts
The new 2011 line of off-road vehicles from Polaris Industries has been released, and trail riders have many different models to choose from. One new model in the line-up offered from the company is the Ranger 500 EFI, a single-cylinder unit that packs 32 horsepower and a top speed of 71 kilometres an hour. Polaris packed this new model with tons of driving features like an odometer, speedometer and a fuel level indicator.
The 500 EFI sports an all-wheel drive system with the option to switch to two-wheel drive. The VersaTrac Turf Mode can unlock the rear differential that will allow for sharper turns while driving in two-wheel drive. The Independent Rear Suspension allows for nine inches of travel, (the front for eight inches), and sits on a chassis small enough to fit in the back of a truck bed. The unit also has a dump box on the back with a gas-assisted dumping operation, and doubles as cargo space for all kinds of outdoor needs.

Maps go digital
When striking out into unknown territory, bringing along a map is a no-brainer, but paper copies are slowly becoming obsolete due to the rise of commercial GPS technology.
Backroad Mapbooks has embraced the digital revolution and jumped into the GPS world, making their Backroad Map series available in an SD card format that can be plugged right into a hand-held unit. The software is compatible with Garmin GPS and MapSource, and features all kinds of data from the typical highway routes to specific details like trail systems for ATVs and snowmobiles, paddling routes and terrain contour and elevation information.
Other useful data includes wildlife management boundaries and point specific wilderness campsites, trail locations and backroad attractions. Backroad Mapbooks has been in the map making business for 17 years and released guides for B.C., Alberta, the prairies, Ontario, Quebec and the Maritimes.

Shane Cuthbertson—an extreme motocross and supercross rider from Alberta who got sixth-place at the Red Bull Last Man Standing—competed but did not finish the Erzberg Rodeo.
