Dogs are more than man’s best friend—when it comes to ATVing, they can be the best riding buddies. Whether they’re running alongside or perched atop the ATV, these enthusiastic canines are in their glory.

My 13-year-old chihuahua, Reo, is a prime example. Ever since he was a 11⁄2-pound pup, the little guy has been riding ATVs, snowmobiles and PWCs like a pro. When we go ATVing, he travels in a milk crate attached to the front rack of my machine. It’s fun to watch him sit there and joyfully bark at the people or animals we pass. Now that he’s gotten older, Reo doesn’t come on long rides anymore, but he still whines and does a little dance when I put on my gear. And if I have to leave him behind, he’ll pout for hours.
Another quad happy and fortunate quadding dog is Chloe, a 12-pound yorkipoo owned by Jaye Mathieu of Cumberland, B.C. Mathieu introduced Chloe to ATVing the day after she and her husband bought a couple of machines in February 2005. Since then, Mathieu and Chloe have logged 10,000 kilometres on their ATV.
“I really love riding my quad and I know Chloe loves it just as much as I do,” wrote Mathieu to RidersWest. “She likes to go riding no matter what the weather is like…People really get a kick out of seeing Chloe riding in her crate, especially when she’s wearing her Doggles.”
Pets like Chloe and Reo are living proof that ATVers come in all shapes and sizes.
